Animal Crossing: City Folk Comparison Video

20 Nov 2008

Animal Crossing 'Comparison' clip
You don't need to look at the screenshots of Animal Crossing: City Folk for long to notice the game looks awfully similar to Animal Crossing on GameCube and Wild World on DS. If you thought the screenshots were deceptive or that something was missing from them, GameVideos has just put together a comparison video to let you see the three games both in motion and in quick succession. Despite being a bit crisper than either the GameCube or DS games, City Folk's graphics were clearly not Nintendo's focus. There would be nothing wrong with that if the rest of the game had that time poured into it, but as our review says, Nintendo missed the mark if they were aiming to improve any of the existing aspects of the series. ...

The DS Life: Center of attention

20 Nov 2008

Despite the aged look of this week's image, this photograph was actually taken quite recently, as evidenced by the DS Lite. The scene is a familiar one, especially at family get-togethers, when gangs of younger cousins, nephews, and nieces roam the house, desperate in their search for any entertainment. Join us past the post break for the full photo.Continue reading The DS Life: Center of attention

EA Ends Blueprint Division, Boom Blox 2 Confirmed

20 Nov 2008

Boom Blox
However much Boom Blox (pictured) ended up selling after all was said and done, it seems the amount was enough for Electronic Arts to carry forward with a sequel. Variety reports that EA is indeed currently working on Boom Blox 2 (a placeholder title), which comes along with news that the publisher is closing down its mysterious EA Blueprint division.Formed near the start of the year, EA Blueprint was an experimental division that, oddly, was never given any clear, full recognition (or explanation) from Electronic Arts. The initial reports were that it was a division that would focus on making casual games in conjunction with social networks like MySpace and Facebook, although an EA representative later clarified that the social networking strategy resided in their Causal Entertainment Label. Now according to Variety's reporting, things are a little clearer. An ex-Blueprint employee explained that the division's intent was to create a development process where individuals or small teams could work together across great distances, without all of them necessarily being employed full-time by EA (kind of sounds like what Microsoft is trying to do these days, huh?). "Using distributed people and leveraging technology in a significant way would allow us to break the high-priced model of game development where everybody is on sight, hired as a full-time regular employee," the anonymous ex-staffer said....

TrackMania DS dated for North America, published by ... Atlus?

20 Nov 2008

Filed under:

Lucky old Europe got TrackMania DS last week, but North America will have to wait for its version, which has just been announced for March 17th. As if North America waiting four months longer than Europe for a game wasn't already bizarre enough, you should hear who's publishing it: Atlus. Yeah, the same Atlus that is far more closely associated with dungeon crawlers and RPGs.Whoever wants to localize it, we'll be welcoming the twisty brilliance of TrackMania DS with a great big hug. Not only does it contain over 100 tracks and an insanely great track editor (check after the break for a video of this at work), but almost all of the early reviews are glowing. Could it be? A racing game on Nintendo's portable that actually works and isn't Mario Kart DS?Gallery: TrackMania DS

Game Center CX 2 Detailed

20 Nov 2008

XSEED's Retro Game Challenge isn't quite out yet (expect it sometime in '09), but the game that inspired it in the first place is getting a sequel. Namco Bandai Games' Game Center CX: Arino no Chosenjo 2 is slated to hit the Nintendo DS in Japan on February 26, and already it's looking pretty retro-insane.The basic idea's exactly as before: as a kid growing up circa the late 1980s, you play through a variety of 8-bit games, completing the challenges given you by the demonic Arino (host of a real-life Japanese videogame variety show) and trying to become as much of a Power Player as you can possibly be. The first game includes retro-styled RPGs and racing games, and the selection of faux-classic titles in the sequel is no less varied. Some of the highlights revealed so far:- Triotos, a Columns-like falling-block game meant to emulate the original Game Boy black-and-white Tetris....

Namco Bandai announces Summon Night X: Tears Crown

20 Nov 2008

The DS seems to be the default platform of choice for Flight-Plan's Summon Night series now. In addition to the remakes of Summon Night 1 and 2, an original Summon Night spinoff, Twin Age, has been released on the handheld (and, of course, localized by Atlus). In the latest V-Jump, Namco Bandai has announced a new Summon Night RPG, Summon Night X:Tears Crown, and released some character art. Surprisingly, the new game is already scheduled for a February 12 release in Japan. While very little information is known now, a countdown on the Summon Night website suggests that we'll learn more tomorrow.
