I got the DS as a Christmas present and simply can't put it down.
It's a great size, and the stylus and touch screen are really easy to use. I also find the screen isn't too bright, so it's easy to use for hours without getting tired eyes or a headache.
There's a good array of games, although I've mostly been using the brain training games at the moment. The games are small and are easy to put in and eject.
The sound is good, and goes up pretty loud if you want it to, while the headphones socket is in a good place and easy to use.
The charge holds really well, which makes the DS good for long journeys, and in black I think it doesn't like like a kids' toy, so I don't feel childish playing it on the train.
All in all, excellent, and I'd recommend it for anyone.

DS Lites are very good, much better than a normal DS and have excellent games so well done Nintendo!! I bought one and I think it's great but needs more than just Pictochat and WIFI already on when you buy it. Also its a bit confusing when it turns itself off when you set it up, I thought I moved the power slider!!!

The nintendo DS is a very good console that passes hours of fun. Its so simple to use without the hassle of all the wires etc. I would recommend it to anyone who has hours of spare time as once you start it you wont be able to stop.

The ds and ds lite are simply awful. If you are into games in any way, stay away from this hellish console. Many games are available but the graphics are so bad the people might as well be stick men. This so-called console is nothing more than mr.game-and-watch in colour. It is a disgrace and a woeful production by Nintendo but somehow still manages to sell 100s of consoles every day. People are
simply being lured in by the sleek, slim finish of what really is just a little annoying thing that maybe 7 year olds might enjoy but really gives a bad name to gaming. On the other hand, truly great consoles such as a ps3, an x box or even a pc produce great games such as the recent Fifa 10 and modern warfare 2 don't sell half as many copies as the ds. this may be due to financial reasons, but the prices of ps3s and particularly the x box 360 have fallen dramatically in the past year, while Nintendo are still looking for 269.99 for the wii, 20 more than the x box 360, and now only 30 less than the ps3, without a doubt the best console on the market. Although the psp go, sonys latest attempt to top the gaming charts has an asking price similar to the wii, it delivers features such as wi-fi, bluetooth and 16gb of internal memory AND an M2(memory stick micro) slot, with games downloadable directly onto the console, saving money and time. Also the psp 3000, 149.99 (Xtra-vision) is 10-20 CHEAPER than the dsi, also providing way better services such as an mp3 player, wi-fi and video player. The dsi may also boast wi-fi, but the inability to watch videos on the dsi cuts your browsing options in half. Back to the ds. Look out for Mr.Game-and-watch in the charts, because the ds is going backwards. I would like to also thank my little sister, who, by breaking the touch screen (indestructible?) made this review possible. ;)

The latest version of the Gameboy handheld system the DS system has touch screen tech and a litte stick so no finger prints.
The DS has been around for a few years and now the DSi is out but there is no really difference, if you owned a Gameboy this is your latest update the battery is rechargable the screen is bright and clear and there are many game out which are very good the system is light and robust.
For gaming on the move this is good system but doesn't have the movie showing ability of the PSP both systems are affordable.
Both are great for gaming but PSP does do more so well worth the price
The DS is just pure gaming so you decide what you want the your system

i got this product in 2007 and i thourghly enjoyd it, the first game i had on it was mario kart ds and i was addicted to it for about a year and it was the only game i ever played but then i went on to buy metroid prime hunters which when you get used to you really like it and also pokemon diamond and pearl are brillitant games and there are many other brillitant games (if you live in america or japan then you may of heard of pokemon platinum which apperantly is a brillitant game) but any way about the unit it self
+'s
+ brightness controll
+ Sleek disign much better then the orriginal ds
+ good button layout, they are all easy to reach and are in a senssible place unlike the gamecube or xbox360 controller
+ picochat
+ long lasting battery life
+ wide range of games from adventure to puzzle
-'s
- unlike the psp it cant be used as a multimedia player unless you buy a flash card
- poor sound quality
- stylus can ealsily get lost (atleast it can with me)
but as you can see there are more +'s than there are -'s

The Nintendo ds lite has not got all the features like a music player that the psp has but think the games are much better and playing games is mainly what you buy a handheld console for anyway (I have tried out a few psp games and wasn't as impressed as when I played the ds lite's games).
The body is nice and glossy and feels much more expensive than it is. It is slimer than the old ds and has brighter screens and a bigger stylus (touch screen pen).
There is a slot for Game boy advance games but when the game is inserted it sticks out a little but that doesn't bother me because it doesn't effect the game play. It doesn't have a built in browser and the psp does but you can buy one for around the same price as a normal ds game.
Overall a good buy for someone who just wants to play great games and doesn't mind about it not having loads of features.

The DS Lite does exactly what it sets out to do - and does it very very well.
It's basically a portable games console aimed at non-gamers. Why do I say aimed at non-gamers? Well, you just have to watch the advets on TV. Like the Wii, the DS Lite is aimed at younger players, women, commuters etc whereas the Playstations and PSPs are aimed more at young men and teans playing the latest first person shooter or Grand Theft Auto incarnation.
You can see this targetting most in the games that are available - even the big titles such as Spore arenot just scaled down versions of the big game, they're somehow 'kiddified'.
While thsi can be a little frustrating when trying to find new games to distract you, you should persevere as there are some gems out there. I only own three games packs at the moment, and these have kept me entertained for a year (SIm City Creator, 42 Classics, and Dr Kawashimas Brain Training - if you're interested).
The console itself could certainly handle more 'grown up' games, and I do hope the games designers address this.
The controls are easy - replicating just about every games console released in the last few years. The form factor is nice and portable (though you shoudl probably get a case for it straight away if your chucking it in a bag for a commute) and the screen looks great (albeit underused with so many cartoon style games around).
I haven't used the sound much - I leave that turned down so as not to annoy those around me. It sounds reasonable though, when I have used it.
Perhaps the most suprising thin is the battery life. Quite how Nintendo have managed to get this thing to run for so long on a single charge I don't know. I don't use it every day, but its eems to last for months between charges... I only wish my mobile would last a quarter of the time this does!
I'd imagine using the built in WiFi connection would use more battery, but I haven't used this as yet - it can be used to play mulitplayer games via the internet or on a Wii apparently, or even with someone within WiFi distanceof you from DS to DS.
All in all a great device to have in your bag for a commute or for travelling - it just needs a few more games that are not quite so aimed at the kids.

I actually bought this for someone else, but I thought I'd test it out first - I liked it so much I decided to keep it and get another one to replace the gift. Super-addictive game playing, easy to use and great graphics.
The price is affordable, if you don't want to splash out on a Wii or PS3, then the Nintendo DS Lite makes a perfect buy. You will also find a fantastic selection of games out there to try.

I don't normally like hand held game consoles, but, this one is fantastic. So easy to use and so many games available. You become addicted and can't put it down!!

Having ordered from amazon I was pleased with their quick service and value for money that they offered. I had no problems with them or the console that I purchsed

I got a ds lite about 18 months ago and was immedietly very pleased with the product. After about 6 months, some small scratches began to appear on the screen, which I later noticed was due to the plastic on the stylus starting to flake away. The buttons on the front of the console are at times slightly un responsive, but the system is overall great for travel and with friends. I would suggest polishing the screen with an eyeglass microfibre pad to clean both screens of fingermarks... and I would also suggest changing the stylus every 6 months. Other than that, I am very impressed with the ds lite. A great improvement from the origional ds.

This is an excellent product. Easy to use, with a good range of games to fit all tastes & it can be used to play all the games previously released for the Gameboy Advance.

This keeps them quiet for hours. I found it cheaper to buy the macjhine without games then buy a bundle of them on the internet auction site.

I've had my NDS Lite for about eight months now and have never regretted buying it. The Black NDS Lite is so cool - I wish the NDS Lites were available in this colour at the time I bought this. I was initially put off with the bulky original DS, but after seeing an NDS Lite thought I would bite the bullet. I also bought an external see through case/skin and a small hard pouch/case to put the nds lite and its peripherals into it. If your going to spend this much money spend a little more to protect your investment. I'm glad I did - Ive dropped this a couple of times onto the floor some time ago (not recommended!), but the hard crystal case/skin (which i bought separately) appears to have saved it.
The NDS Lite itself is incredibly addictive many games use the touch screen stylus and microphone as well as the buttons. I have since played with a PSP and been overawed by the PSP - the games on PSP look way more better than on the NDS, but again Nintendo have got the mixture just right and I still don't regret buying the NDS Lite, would still buy it over the PSP - its my faithful companion that I even take to work (to play during my breaks). Although I initially bought this for myself, my wife is forever 'borrowing' it! This is where another coloured DS Lite would come in handy!
I hate carrying all my cartridges around with me so I ended up buying a m3 ds real, a flash cart that you use instead of the game cartridges. This is a bit if a grey area as although it doesn't invalidate your Nintendo warranty, its usage is frowned upon as a lot of people use it for piracy. But its advantages cannot be denied - Ive got a 8gb micro sdhc card which slots into the m3, and allows me to carry 8gb worth of games all on one cartridge! (you have to download the games, and you can download legal home brew software, but please support the game developers and *only* download the cartridges you own). I tend to find prices on play.com very good for buying nds cartridges. The m3 also allows me to play video, music and pictures on the NDS Lite - something Nintendo should have done ages ago.
Also with some games you can actually export your saved characters onto the Wii!! For example Pokemon Daimond/Pearl on NDS to Pokemon Battle Revolution on the Wii!
If your debating whether or not to buy - just buy it, you wont regret it! (Now all you have to do is choose what colour you want!)

The DS Lite is fantastic. Slim, with bright screens and a good balance between power and battery life. The speakers aren't as good as the older DS, but it doesn't really matter. But, you could make it a pocket Cray supercomputer for I care; it has one major fault.
The hinge will not break unless you open and close the console very frequently; I used to play on mine three times a day and listen to MP3s which meant the hinge would cycle 5-6 times a day. A year later, the right hinge came off. And oh, boy, what have we here?
The rachet that locks the screen open is only in the right hinge. So all the stress is on the right hinge. That means it's going to be reinforced. Right? Right? No. It's actually weaker than the left hinge. The little tiny bit of plastic above the R shoulder button is all that holds it on. To aid manufacture, the right hinge is a separate piece that is screwed onto the body using self tapping screws. This puts strain on two points on the already thin tab of plastic. So it cracks through heavy use. No need to abuse it, just open it and close it a few hundred or maybe thousand times and it'll break free. Ah, but Nintendo, acknowledging this fault, would fix it for free?
No. First they ignore my emails, then they ignore my phone calls. Leaving me with a (fully functional but) broken handheld. After purchasing a replacement case off the internet, some modification later I had it back together. Guess what. That one broke in exactly the same way and I had no warranty (not that Nintendo will honour it) left.
So, the Lite. Brilliant for casual users. But for anyone who plans to use it frequently to blot out the British rains in dinnertime death matches, stick to your older DS. It's harder, tougher. I sure wish I had.
Oh, and the screen is even worse outside than the old one. It looks really nice indoors though.

I love this little bundle of joy. Is excellent fun, keeps me entertained and out of trouble. Is easy to take anywhere - excellent for those being sent on courses or away from home through work, or just for something to do in the evening. The range of games available to use with this are increasing with plenty of choice for all, and there's no need to power up, plug in, or go to the study/spare room/computer room if you fancy five minutes on it. Is also very easy to use so no hours of trawling through a manual before enjoying the fun.

I just bought it really for a long plane journey, but I can't put it down, easy to use, small enough to fit in your bag. Solid construction, it comes with a charger, and spare stylus. Very simple to use even for a non-tech and even if your not into games, you will love this, I have the brain training game and the 42 all time classics, which is fantastic. If your unsure, snatch one off one of your kids or grandkids, and have a go !

I, like so many other people, bought this mainly for the brain training game. The console itself is very easy to use, has a good battery life, and most important of all, it is portable so you can play it anywhere. The selection of games for the DS is impressive, with some top quality titles on offer, from puzzle games to RPG's and everthing else in between. The great thing is that Nintendo has aimed the DS at all ages, which is why it has been a huge success for nintendo.
It may not have the the more powerful graphics of Sony's PSP, but it does have amazing playability, and alot of original games that you find on any console. So, if you've been looking at different consoles, give the DS a go and I don't think you'll be disapointed, especialy when there are so many original titles on offer.

Ahhh... Nintendo. Nobody can beat Nintendo when it comes to the handheld gaming market. Nokia had a go with the N-Gage. I've only ever seen one N-Gage. And Sony had a slightly more respectable go with the PSP, which, while fun, broke fairly easily, became scratched and generally fell out of favour among those who wanted a more pick-up-and-play gaming experience.
The DS Lite improves on Nintendo's original release by making the console thinner, lighter and considerably better to look at. It's clear the Japanese gaming gurus took onboard all of the initial criticisms (of which there were not many) and built something that defies all expectations of handheld gaming.
To start with: the graphics. 2d graphics are crystal clear with bright, vibrant colours and a great resolution. The majority of DS games use a 2 dimensional system which, although not as good looking as 3d graphics, still work astonishingly well withing the context of the games. 3d graphics come as standard a lot more on later DS games as it's capabilities were put to better use, but graphics are not quite on par of those on the PSP.
The sound out of the DS is also fairly impressive. Sporting a pair of small speakers- one on either side of the upper screen- the DS is capable of producing stereo sound. For those who like their sound crisper, the DS also has a headphone port. The volume control is on the closest edge of the DS, meaning it is very difficult to change accidentally while playing a game.
The DS Lite is compatible with both DS cards and Gameboy Advance cartridges. Sadly, it is no longer compatible with the original gameboy cartridges as the Gameboy Advance was. As DS software is region-free you can play US or Japanese imports on your DS without having to resort to risky modifications.
One of the main things that the DS has going for it, however, is the multiplayer aspect of the games. Most games have some sort of multiplayer mode built in meaning with more than one DS you and your friends could all play on the same game together. Several great games also have a DS Download Play feature, where only one game card is needed for a group of people to play all or part of the multiplayer game.
The new lines of the DS Lite makes it look gorgeous and more than a little bit elegant. The case is hard-wearing and has a feel of quality about it. All of the buttons are responsive but solid and the screens do not scratch easily. The folding clam-shell design further protects the screens when not in use and the stylus has been thickened slightly since the console's predecessor to allow it to be used easier.
The DS Lite is a great console for family and friends. With a strong focus on the multiplayer market, Nintendo have created a wonderful console with a massive range of family friendly games for fun for all ages.
