    Play anywhere, anytime!, 21 Apr 2010

    I purchased a DS lite in Cobalt/Black about a year ago and I liked it a lot. It withstood the heavy use with some wear and tear. The hinge got broken and the lid does not lock in position any more. I like to play it laying down on the bed so this is bad. Volume adjustment got looser and slides easily.

    The outside of the DS did not get much scratches as I expected. Intense use of the stylus did not scratch the screen much (playing in dusty outside causes a lot of damage,though). I play it a lot while sitting in a tub but mine is perfectly fine ( I do not wet it, but sometimes collects mists on it).

    I recently bought another DS Lite in Metalic Silver and am hoping this lasts longer than 1 year.

    Overall, it is very good portable player with a bit fragile character.

    Bought this for my daughter for her seventh birthday, needless to say it was a big hit. Her sisters already had their own DS lites, so now they all share games and pictochat (sp?) with each other.

    My son absolutely loved this item so much infact he would fall asleep playing it and wake up too. I had to hide if from him numerous times to get him to go to sleep. THE only problem i had was that it was not 5 year old proof. He got mad because he kept losing as mario and he bent if backwards which snapped it in half. I will never buy him another one but it was fun while it lasted

    So much fun. I love the Nintendo DS, and the various games that you can get to play on it. The system is very nice, it is very easy to learn, and in no time at all, you become a pro at using it. Very user friendly for kids and adults. Good distraction for those times, when a book or tv is not cutting it for you. Definitely recommend purchasing this system.

    I won't review the entire scope of the DS systems!! I purchased two of these for my 3 yr & 5 yr old grand daughters. These are easy to use; easy to charge; easy to store; the games sold are age appropirate. What more could you ask for ... a product that works. When my 5 yr old starting "chopping" away while playing the Chopping Mama game, I was afraid that my investment would soon be chopped to death. Not at all. My 11 yr grand son has his own PSP, but plays this one also. Again, If you are looking to purchase any game system, ask someone who has played them & is familiar with them. That's what I did. I highly recommend this game system to any one looking for a lite weight, portable game system that will entertain children in the car. I am very satisfied with my investment.

    Well i bought a DS a few years ago and i thought it was great! everything worked perfectly. however after a year things started to go wrong. the first thing to was the L and R buttons. then the start button, and just this morning i went to use it and the "a" button doesn't work, and of course the warranty ends after a year, and i'm not going to waste my money on another one of these. so if you want something worth your money in the long run, avoid buying this product!

    For this review, please there are no links for the items I've mentioned, since I can't link directly to them. But I give you all the hints you need. Good luck.

    As soon as you order your NDS, also get an M3i Zero (find it at [...] - get it in a package with an 8GB mirco-SD card). This will let you play NDS games that you download. If you also want to play GameBoy games (or Gameboy Color or Gameboy Advance), get a "GBA expansion pack for M3 Real" (find it at [...]).

    If you got the M3i Zero package like I said above, the micro-SD card will come preloaded with the software you need and a bunch of NDS games, so you can start playing immediately.

    To get more games, install utorrent (Google is your friend) and search for NDS (or GB or GBC or GBA) at [...]. Install them on the micro-SD card by inserting the card into your computer (perhaps using the USB adabpter that came with the M3i Zero) and copy the games to the card. There's already a folder for the NDS games. For any Gameboy games, create a folder called \GBA and put those games in there.

    Note that you'll need WinRAR to decompress the games you downloaded. If you don't have it, search isohunt for "winrar corporate".

    This is all you need to do to play games. However, the M3i Zero is fully customizable. This means you can install alternative firmware, skins, and homebrew software. So after you're comfortable with playing games, search for "sakura" to get a good starting point.

    Fun - until it breaks, 17 Mar 2010

    I got this console as a gift two years ago. I was waiting to write a review because I wasn't sure I'd explored all the features enough to actually right a worthwhile review. (Considering I didn't use the PictoChat or change my settings or at least see what I could do with it until recently; I was more into just playing the games. :P)

    When I found the PictoChat, I was pleased. Then my DS went places with me during the summer, so my sisters and I could PictoChat on the long drives etc. The DS certainly fit my standards of a "good portable console". It doesn't have a browser, but because my standards aren't really that high, well, I don't mind.

    The reason I gave the DS Lite 4 starts is because it is made of materials that are a bit cheap. When I actually began to use it more and bring it places, it lasted about 3 months. I was disappointed when the DS eventually snapped in half. The thing was, both of my sister's DSes had snapped in half, so it wasn't just MY mistakes or MY carelessness.

    Overall, I liked the DS Lite. I plan to buy another one, because my satisfaction is still high as far as the other parts of the DS go. :)

    Great product, battery life is excellent, at least 6 hours of non-stop play. Black part is very good for gripping, cobalt gets a little smudged but I didn't buy this to go to a beauty pageant with. Overall great product, highly recommend!

    Best hand held I've ever played, 24 Feb 2010

    Purchased this for myself some time again and I'd have to say It's the best hand held I've ever owned. I've had all of the portables game consoles from nintendo and been disappointed with all of them,but I love this one so far. Not perfect in my opinion,but a great buy.Here is what I feel the pros and cons are.

    The Dual Screens. Love these things so far. I've been playing contra 4 a lot and love how game play is spread across both screens for a larger view. The screen are both bright and easy to see on.

    The Nintendo Wi-Fi. I haven't used this much yet,but it's cool not to have to use cables like the older gameboy systems.

    Touch Screen Technology. So far I've only used it with metroid prime,but it's a nice addition for hand held and something that's been a long time in coming.

    Microphone Port. Nice feature to have but I'll admit that I haven't messed around with this one yet.

    Rich Stereo Sound. This was one of my main gripes with the gameboy advance. The sound on the ds sounds great so far. I have to turn it down at work a lot of times so I don't get caught playing it. It's capable of cranking out some very good music.

    Backward Compatibility. I have a lot of gameboy advance games so this was a must. I can still play my older games and even choose which screen I want to play them on.

    Battery life is very good. I have to charge mines about every 4 or 5 days and I use mines a lot. Perfect for taking on trips.

    Fits in your pocket easily. I stick mines in my jacket pocket at work and my supervisor never notices it which is cool.

    Huge amount of games to choose form. I've had no problem so far finding games I like which was a problem for me on the gba. So far I have 4 and will be buying more soon.

    Cons

    You can't play gameboy or gameboy color games on it. You also can't change the button setting on gba games. Also you can only play those games in single player mode.

    Even though I enjoy the touch screen it seems some games would be easier to play with a standard control method rather than using the stylus,microphone or touch screens to play them. I've talked to many who don't like game play to be spread over both screens which is confusing for some. Some games don't give you the option to decide to use theses features or play the standard way.

    I'd love some rubber grips on the side of the thing for long gaming session.

    I really wish they had some method were you could lock the top screen in place. at times when I'm playing games it falls down on the lower screen and I have to adjust it again. Makes it a bit of a problem when traveling on a bus or car at times. I never really had this problem with gbc or the gba.

    the hinges crack to easy from regular use. Mines already has a small crack in it.

    All said though I'm really enjoying this thing and recommend it to any body looking for a great portable console. Not perfect,but nintedno is getting there and I can't wait to see what's next.

    Best Gameboy Yet !!!, 20 Feb 2010

    WoW Where do I begin, when the first ds came out it was ugly as hell and the brightness suck too.I did not buy one knowing Nintendo and there greedy ways on changing their products religiously,I waited longer and got the ds lite two weeks when it came out and was very please with the design and brightness as well as how the games are so additive.The ds lite has 2 screens and one (the bottom one) is touch screen making your game play change to a new excited gaming experience for a new generation.The ds lite also has many colors so you can choose your own style.The system itself is very compact you can close it so the screens don't get dusty or scratch which is great because you won't stop playing and it comes with a stylus and the stylus can go in the system so you won't lose it,Now battery life last for hours with just one charge way longer then the psp.

    Now on to the bad, I don't care how many reviewers tell you they're aren't none cause that's BS because if Nintendo is good at something it cheap hardware.The ds lite can get very scratch on the glossy part unless you use a cover.The ds lite comes with a gba port but the stupid port sticks out the game so it looks ugly and out of place and people might steal the game seeing it all stick out form the ds itself,and when you do start playing the gba games the games itself look smaller then they were on the gba sp system and playing them feels very uncomfortable too because of the awkward controlling which you can't change which sucks cause I play more gba games then the ds games.The ds graphics aren't that really good yeah they look very nice but psp is waaaaaaay better in that department.The worst part is after you play awhile with the system it breaks because of the b button being press so much which is place on the power button and if you break it the system turns off every time you press the b button, I don't know how Nintendo dummy's didn't see that in testing the system but I'm up to my second ds because of it and don't even get a dsi they totally suck because the system breaks faster like my brother's he only had it for 3 months and the shoulder buttons broke then the screen lost its lines and he didn't even play with it much or drop it and now we have to pay 60 busks to get it fix.

    To be basic get this system and treat it like a new born baby, its great and even nice to look at, I got the cobalt and love how cool and pretty it is and guess what the ds plays great games so get this now and go crazy.

    Great for movie and DVR shows in Subway, 18 Feb 2010

    Great bright screen.

    I watch Naruto, Smallville

    and the simpsons with DS Lite.

    And no one knows I am watching porn on this.

    Got this for my wife back in 2007.

    She hasn't used it since having ipod touch.

    So, I "borrowed" it from her,

    plug in a 8gb card into the adapter, converted movies into DPG format,

    put in moonshell movie player. Load the movies in.

    Games are still challenging.

    Screen is smaller than ipod touch, but it is acceptable.

    Touch screen volume and fast forward on movies, what else do you want ?

    To all of you that are still young at heart but not the typical age for gaming...the Nintendo DS is GREAT! I love puzzles and have enjoyed playing Brain Age and The Quest Trio. The DS is compact and easy to carry with you. The stylus makes playing games easy. Very reasonably priced! If you are reading this review....don't wait...go ahead and order one today. Now that I have a DS I can put games and accessories on my birthday and Christmas list for family members!
