    A boring game ...., 4 May 2010

and I found it very frustrating playing against a computer which seemed determined to thwart my attempts. I am managing to get through the game by forfeiting a life on most levels. I regret purchasing this game.

    No Show, 14 Mar 2010

I really do not know what to say. The last three orders since December 2009 have not been delivered. This is a disgrace and I do not see how you can hope to carry on using MRW as your couriers. I know of no other courier who has not found my address, which is there excuse for non delivery. I am not alone in this thought as I know of at least one other client who has not had there order delivered. I am thoroughly disgusted, I can perhaps understand it happening once but three times is beyond belief. I will be doing my on line shopping with another company from now on.

I will add that I never had a problem when you used royal mail.

Got it for christmas, first tried on boxing day and played every day since!I've completed the game twice now but still love, love love it. Ignore the story, there's absolutely no reason for it and if you try to follow it then you may end up abandoning a seriously good game.

    Very addictive, 14 Jan 2010

I have literaly spent hours with this game, it's so addictive. It starts off quite easy but has lots of different levels, some of them are really challenging. There is a story that goes along with it but I just skip that and get straight into the game. Would definately recommend this for children and adults alike.

    Frustrating, 4 Dec 2009

This game is so frustrating - I think there should be the option to turn off the clock. How annoying is it when you are so close to solving the puzzle and the times up!! Also the rules are not clear regarding 'special moves' You can get granted a special move but I still have not worked out how to use it!! As I said so frustrating !!!

Plenty of gaming hours in this......, 28 Nov 2009

Having owned this game for about 6 months now (and owning the PC version), the fact that I am still playing it is very surprising - usually I'd having finished it or got so irritated with it I would have traded it in! It is your classis match 3 - the other reviewers are correct in saying the storyline is laughable, it's just a poor attempt to try and link the jewelboards.

Effectively the boards change shape slightly every time you move a level, and you play the same levels repeatedly, but with a higher difficulty setting as you progess through another 'chapter' in the story. Sounds very boring, but it is addictive!! The plus point is it's an easy game to put down when you get bored or frustrated, and then pick up a few days or even weeks later to try again. I will plug at it unitl I'm finished it, and it will propably stay in my collection as it does have a lot of replay value.

This game has stayed in my DS since I received it. It is the most agravating game I have come accross yet. Just when you think you have completed a level, the time runs out!!!! Once I pick it up, I cannot put it down as I won't be beaten!! A good game.... only one criticism - the dialogue in between each level is a pain so I just skip over the reading bit to get to the jewel quest bit.

Money well spent, 3 Oct 2009

Found this item very addictive working through the search for jewels. Our visiting daughter tried it and it immediately became her "I must have item " (She now does!!!) The Professor Layton "Curious Village" is also very good including several puzzles in the story - so much so we have now bought "Professor Layton and Pandoras box". However not started that one yet - the neglected house is in need of a dusting!!!

    Addictive!, 25 Jul 2009

The write up makes it sound like you are solving a mystery, but in reality you are just playing the same game over and over, with slightly differently laid out screens. It is incredibly addictive and there is an element of "getting the hang of it". Don't buy if you like mystery solving, but do buy if you like to master a technique or want something to fill your time.

This is a super game that is keeping me entertained. At each level you want to achieve the puzzle board so you can move on. The only critism I would have is that once you have lost all your lives you lose your points as well which means you start again at zero. Apart from that I am enjoying the game hugely

Once you start playing you get hooked and don't want to stop. There are five stories and lots of different levels to work through for each story and the jewel boards are very addictive, if you run out of time you just have to try it again. Once you've completed every level there's not much else to do but pass it on to someone else.

Jewel Quest: Expeditions is a near-exact port of the PC version of Jewel Quest 2., 24 Oct 2008

If you haven't played the game, it's a variation of a basic puzzle game type, in which you slide pieces around on a board in order to make matches. You can only move a piece in one of the four cardinal directions, and once a match is made, the pieces disappear, and the spaces that the matched pieces previously occupied turn gold. Pieces will fall from the top to fill any empty spaces, which sometimes results in massive, screen-clearing chain-reactions. The ultimate goal is to highlight every square on the board before time runs out.

While the early puzzles are easy, difficulty soon ramps up. Partially obscured pieces appear, which require you to match them up with like-colored pieces in order to free them up. One more match takes them out completely. Later puzzles involve pieces that are totally obscured, and require a bit of guess work and one extra step to clear. Some puzzles even require you to turn each square silver, and then to gold in order to clear the board. Throw in hazards such as a monkey mask that undoes any spaces you've cleared if you match three of them, as well as progressively tough board layouts and new puzzle pieces that appear every so often as you progress, and you've got a game that will challenge any dedicated puzzle fan.

You have one helpful tool to aid you in your Quest, in the form of Lion coins. Make a match of three of these coins, and you'll have the ability to clear a single square. They can be used at any time, which means that if you play your cards right, you can stock-pile a few of these before you reach the more difficult puzzles, which makes things a bit easier. The game is still pretty difficult in later stages, but the inclusion of these "saves", so to speak, ensures that the difficulty never gets too out of hand. At least until the challenge stages.

As I said earlier, the game is a near-exact port of the PC version of Jewel Quest 2. The puzzles are the same, as is the order in which you progress through them. There is no new content to make the DS version worth looking at for those who have played the PC version exhaustively. The DS version only differs in a few minor areas, the first being the increased focus on the story. While the story is likewise exactly the same as the one found in the PC version, the way it is presented is different. The story is presented in cut-scene style, complete with character-portraits. While the way it is presented looks decent, the story is still as nonsensical and superfluous as it was in the PC version, so it's ultimately a change that has no bearing on the game one way or the other.

Another difference lies in the interface. Using the DS stylus, you can shift pieces around a whole lot quicker and easier than you could using a mouse in the PC version. However, due to the DS' small screen size, it's not uncommon to accidentally move pieces you didn't mean to. It's certainly not a deal-breaker though, as it's rarely causes problems in early levels, and you'll have it well in hand by the time you get to the more difficult puzzles.

Overall, Jewel Quest: Expeditions is a worthy investment. It's a great variation on a common puzzle theme, and it's chock-full of replay value. If you've played the PC version you may want to pass, but eif you've never played it before and enjoy puzzle games, then you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy.

    Addicted!!!, 21 Oct 2008

I am addicted to this game. I have wanted a game like Bejeweled and dummy me did not realize for a while before ordering this that it's like the game I have on my computer which I love. When I got it I was so excited and playing it is just so much fun. I've advanced levels, lost my score and am determined to continue on and regain my high score again. The only difference between this and the computer game is when you use your bonus life it only clears the block you click on, in the computer version it clears all of that color but that's fine. I'm enjoying it very much. I highly recommend it. Great game.

Another wonderful Jewel Quest, 16 Jul 2008

OK, so I'm a Jewel Quest junkie. I never get sick of it. I can see how some people would -- all you're doing is matching sets of jewels again and again and again, but the challenge is all in the designs and the timer. I'd love it if Jewel Quest Solitare was available for DS, but I'm content with this one... for now.

not as fun as bedazzled, 14 Jul 2008

I am looking, as are many other people, for a bejeweled-like game for ds. This is sort of the same, but it's not as much of a challenge. There are more "automatic" scores. The music is better than Bejeweled's, tho. I'm going to keep this one in mind and keep looking. There doesn't seem to be any way to turn off the "timer," a feature I would like. mb

PS. I played the online "free" version at (I think) iWin.

Jewel Quest Just Like the PC Game, 9 Jun 2008

This Nintendo DS game seems to play just like the PC version that I had sampled. I only gave it 3 stars because as you get up in levels when some of the "Jewels" are covered in "black tar" they don't show a small hint of what the color of the jewel is making matches almost impossible. Otherwise it is a good game.

Bewjeweled but more challenging!, 2 Jun 2008

I was surprised when I was reading the previous reviews at the complaints about price, and yes $30 is a lot. But, once I got hoooked, I completely forgot the price! If you like bewjeweled, you'll love this game. It's the same concept of moving gems, but as you move on in the story the puzzles are more challenging. You have odd corners to try and remove as well as jewels covered in stone that you have to break open in order to reveal the stone within and remove that line. You can also earn coins by getting 3 in a row which will remove any jewel you choose.

I agree, its a bit on the higher side of DS game prices, but if you're a fan of these types of games it is totally worth it! A great, challenging and addictive game.

Fun but a little pricey..., 22 May 2008

I've played this game on my computer before and always found it fun and sometimes challenging, but a $30 tag price makes it one of the more expensive games for the DS. :-(

I like this game as it is along the lines of super collapse, the old tetris for the 1st generation game boy (which I had back in the day), and the luxor games. This keeps one challenged and entertained for hours as you try to get further into the complex and harder levels. It's replay value is there; once I get to the final level, I can see myself starting over and doing this again.

Fun but not worth $30, 16 Dec 2007

Jewel Quest is a fun game - the story line that provides that background is pretty lame. 98% of the game revolves around solving "Bejeweled" type puzzles of increasing difficulty. Pretty fun

MY only complaint is that at $30 Jewel Quest is one of the more expensive games for the DS. In fact for an additional $5 you can buy Zelda.... which is more of a true game. Jewel Quest is more along the lines of a game you would buy for a cell phone. It is fun and is great at killing time - but it isn't too in depth.

    Pro's

    - Fun puzzles can help kill significant time on flights.

    - The DS stylus works very well for this game

    - Lots of variety in the puzzles

    - I like the use of the "Gold Coins" that allow you to complete one unmarked spot.

    Con's

    - A little expensive for the game's content - I think $20 is more appropriate but to each their own.

    - The "story" is more annoying than anything.

As a whole - not bad - definitely worth buy if you ever see the game discounted on Amazon or on a discount shelf at a local store!

I became "addicted" to the Jewel Quest 2 game on my computer. However, when the computer screen kept freezing partway through the game, I had to give up the computer version. Now, I have the DS version, and have become addicted again to this matching game....Much more interesting than the Brain Age game.
