Great Pokemon Game, 6 Apr 2010

One of the better pokemon games available. Unfortunately not much variety of pokemon exist in this iteration of the game. A great story and lots of pokemon fun.

    A Nice Game, 8 Mar 2010

This game is pretty fun. When I first got it, i was really in to it. After a while, it became pretty boring and i didn't want to play it anymore. I didn't know what to do next, what to catch, and where to go, etc... I wanted to end the game already but i didn't know wat to do!I think that it would be a pretty fun game for people who like to explore and have a loootttt of patience. Overall, the game is something worth its cost.

    Yay for new/nice graphics!, 23 Jan 2010

Not gonna lie - it's the same game as the others, it just looks MUCH nicer. It's just as fun and I finished it in about the same time as the others too. Worth buying, playing, and reselling. :-)

This game is great, it has loads to do, tou can catch a wide variety of pokemon and you do not have to catch every type of pokemon, just see them, which is definitely better. It will also keep you entertained for a very long time.

    Pokemon Pearl - 5 Stars, 31 Aug 2009

As a fan of the Pokemon game series, and of the DS Lite, I am glad to say that I gave Pearl five out of five stars. The gmaeplay includes features from older games, but updates on FR/LG like a new look (and much easier controls!) for the battle system, a much better user interface, excellent use of the doublescreen, loads of "applications" include a clock, pokemon mood tracker, step counter, etc., and battle-sprite animations. Not only is the look nicer, but there are plenty of new pokemon- most of which are also in Platinum- and longer gameplay after the Elite Four. The Champion is more challenging, and there are more interesting, long sidequests.

If you have been playing since Gold, get Pearl. If you have never played Pokemon, you should still get Pearl.

    Great fun!, 9 Aug 2009

This game is brilliant. Having started out from Pokémon yellow, i have always had a secret love for the games!

And this one is just as good as all the others, well worth the money. It is a fast moving game, and the opportunities in the game are endless; one of my favorite parts being Professor Rowan's assistant who will appear and give you items to aid you on your way.

This game is also amazing for playing with multiple people, the global trading site, the underground tunnels, and having opportunities to battle and trade with friends.

Also new to this game is the Pokétch, which is displayed on the touch screen which has plenty of applications to keep you going, for example a clock, a calculator, health stats of all your pokemon, how pokemon in the daycare center are doing, item finders, how your pokemon think of you etc.

So if you have liked pokemon and are trying to decide whether to buy, go for it! I ummed and ahhed for ages about it and I'm so glad I bought it! I find its even good enough for a 17 year old girl to enjoy it :D

So go for it, it's well worth the money.

another pokemon game, 7 Aug 2009

This is good untill you have finished the game. It's just like the other pokemon games in terms of how you play, trade etc. There are a few new surprises though and the game play is generally good.

The wi-fi aspects of this game opens it up a alot and allows you to play the game fpr a little longer, but if you are not a pokemon fan you may find yourself pl;aying it once or twice then leaving it in the cupboard for a few months.

    Pokemon Pearl, 20 Mar 2009

I love pokemon. Great game. Alot of fun and very addicting. I just wish they would make a game like this for the bigger systems. One that you can actually go and catch pokemon like on the TV show. Until they get smart enough to do that, I will continue to have fun with what they have out.

Had this game for two years. Still love it., 12 Mar 2009

As a huge RPG fan, and already owning Pokemon Sapphire, I bought this game instantly. I aboslutley LOVE Pokemon, and this game is no different. The gameplay hasn't changed all that much, but is that bad? Let's cover three aspects, Gameplay, Graphics and Storyline.

The gameplay has a few minor changes but mostly it's the same as the other Pokemon games. You play as a boy or girl, aiming to fill your Pokedex and beat the champion. For people who aren't Pokemon geeks, this is the main goal of the game. The game introduces a new reigon, Sinnoh. This is the Genration IV, so there are some new Pokemon. Basically, you catch Pokemon and battle with them. The best thing is, there are virtually no restrictions, so you can play however you want. I think this is a great way to make a game. Overall, I give gameplay, 4/5

The graphics are a bit of an "in the middle" situation. They're good, but I feel that they could've been better. Some of the moves in the battles scenes are cartoony, but again, I think they could look better. Graphics: 3/5.

The storyline is very complex. It's fun to play and very addicting too. The character speech goes on and on sometimes, but that's easily tolerated. I don't want to spoil it, so I'll just say you will enjoy it! 4/5

This is a wonderful game. There's nothing unique about it, you can just say it's a port to the DS. If you're a loyal Pokemon fan, I can just say this is another Pokemon game you'll like. If you've never played Pokemon, I cannot express how much you should buy this game. Once you buy it, you will consider yourself a hooked fan like myself, and just to prove how much I love this, do you think I'm going to buy the Platinum version? You bet I am!

Fine game, but nintendo needs to get a little more original with the pokemon., 1 Mar 2009

Okay, well, I got this game because I am a Pokemon die-hard and I love the collecting/strategy/cute/etc. aspects of this game. I loved Sapphire/Ruby and Crystal/Silver/Gold, they all had good plots that didn't stray from the formula but still entertained. I didn't ever have a game boy color, so, my loss, but that's really beside the point.

    ANYWAYS

This game is the first DS pokemon game that Nintendo has released. I am therefore forced to go easy on it. I have to attribute the repetitive scenery and unoriginal Pokemon to the newness of the technology. *cough* yeah right *cough*. I just really got sick of seeing the same old same old bird/fish/other common animal Pokemon, and, HELLO, newer technology does not mean that you have to make the legendary Pokemon look like a dinosaur robot! I mean jeeze! I really preferred Lugia and Hoho. They looked sweet and somewhat believable and more, um, *ahem* LEGENDARY. My advice to Nintendo is to look elsewhere for Pokemon models, because wherever you're currently getting them from is really not aesthetically appealing.

I also thought the elite four were too easy, The first part of the game was not nearly long enough and I MISS SECRET BASES. They were so much fun, please bring them back Nintendo. I mean this game had them I guess, but they were underground, so the only model you had was like a rock cave, and you had to clear rocks out and stuff. NO fun.

I still recommend this game to basically anyone because there are also many positives. I just tend to pick out the negatives. Anyways, it's still really addicting because there are so few Pokemon, you feel like you're always just one step away from completing your pokedex.

I don't like transporting older Pokemon from GBA cartridges. It's just really cheap somehow. Too easy almost. And the new animations for the old Pokemon are dumb. They looked deformed, so if you're married to the way your Milotic looks, the one that took you hours to find in Sapphire, DON'T transfer it.

I think the designers at Nintendo should make everything in the game look less block-y and more defined. Once again, vary up the scenery PLEASE. That's one of the main things i liked about ruby/sapphire, you felt like you were on an actual adventure because everything looked adventurey, if that makes any sense.

Personally, I preferred the older games, but this one is still fun. /shrug. I am confident that the future of Pokemon games is not hopeless. I will continue to buy and play them faithfully. You just need to play this for yourself and I'm telling you this so my negative review doesn't turn you off to these recent pokemon games. Some things I hate others may love, so I don't know. You should decide for yourself.

THE BEST GAME EVER!!!, 25 Jan 2009

I love this game! Although this is my first pokemon game, I've had other DS games before, like Zelda, Nintendogs, and Mariokart. This game is HUGEEEEEEEEEEE. There is so much to do. Just when you think the game is over, there is something else to do. I thought after obtaining all 8 gym badges and beating the Elite 4 plus the Champion (Cynthia), the game was over. I then discovered that you could catch Heatron, and also start to build up your Pokedex. I've managed to catch Palkia, Uxie and Azelf, but is still trying to catch Mesprit, who keeps running away. I've managed to get her level down to yellow, and can't wait to catch her eventually. In the meantime, I can battle in the Battle zone and rechallenge the Elite 4 as often as I want, to level-up my Pokemons and earn more money. I've also managed to eventually evolve Riolu into the Great Lucario.

You can challenge a friend and I understand that you can also go online to trade or challenge other people, but I've not done that yet.

All I can say, is BUY this game. It's more than FANTASTIC!!!

    Am I nit picking?, 26 Nov 2008

have been a loyal fan to the pokemon franchise for many years and this game... made me feel quite ambivilent. Of course, it's a pokemon game therefore it was good. It had all the elements that a pokemon game should have. But I can't help feeling that they didn't bring anything interesting and new enough into these 2 new games. Although I would recommend this game in any one's collection, i feel that some fans, like me, may be a tad dissappointed. For example the DS control system was shamefully left out. Yeah you needed it for mixing berries...so?! Hardly a pivotal part in the game. It's repetitive and boring and only true pokemon nerds would use this all the time. However this shouldn't be a problem for some people as a lot of people were annoyed that Zelda was stylus controlled only, whereas I adored it. Any hoo I'm going off the point here. I got the game when it first came out and I havn't finished it yet. Partly because it is a very long game and partly because I found myself not caring anymore. I think ultimatley most people will enjoy this game but for me, I was a tad dissapointed.

Pokemon does it again., 25 Nov 2008

This game is another spectacular game from the series of handheld pokemon RPG's.

It glistens with imagination yet don't expect a load of difference to the old games such as Emerald, Ruby or Sapphire. Still this is a great joy to play and if you want to complete everything, this game will keep you going for months on end. Also there is online play to spice things up a bit. If your a pokemon fanatic or are new to the series this will be a treat to everyone.

Palkia always Beats Dialga, 23 Oct 2008

I don't know WHY everyone always buys Diamond, I mean, if you go into a game shop I bet you'll find loads of Pearls, but only 1 or 2 diamonds. The games are relativley the same, but they both have different pokemon to catch. These are normally just small pokes that are in some long grass somewhere, but the main change is Palkia and Dialga.

I asked some of my friends why they all got Diamond without thinking about Pearl, most of them said its beacause Dialga's Roar of Time KOs Palkia. This is not true, Palkia has Speical Rend which is the same as Roar of Time, except it dosent take a move to recharge!

Anyway, I think I've said enough about Diamond vs Pearl.Pokemon Pearl has a exciting storyline (it's the same with Diamond) that keeps you gripped till the very end, and even after that you still want to carry on because there is the promise of getting more Legendary Pokemon (including god of all pokemon, Arceus). It's well worth your money and time to play, and, even though Pokemon Platinum is coming out in a few months, you still need to play this game!

Back to basics in a big way..., 19 Oct 2008

This game has all of the fun of the original Pokemon Red and Blue, while adding some of the features that worked in the last few games, and taking out some of the things that didn't. At other times things have been simplified, or made better through the use of the Pokeatch in game.

If you like pokemon at all, get this game.

months worth of fun!, 3 Oct 2008

I got this game a year ago. While it only took me about a week to beat the Elite Four and become the champion of Sinnoh, I continued to play the game for months afterward.

A high school senior at the time, I played my cartridge of Pokemon Pearl for (according to the game log) almost 400 hours. There's a TON to do in this game and it kept me busy and interested for all the 380+ hours I spent playing it.

There are many, many different aspects to this game. As your ambitious pokemon trainer travels and trains their pokemon to be strong, they also meet and battle new and different trainers whose pokemon get stronger and harder to battle. All while challenging gym leaders, participating in super contests and thwarting the evil plans of Team Galactic.

The game play seldom gets stale and there's always more pokemon to find and capture. One of the most rewarding aspects of the game is filling up your pokedex with all the species of pokemon you've caught.

Pokemon games were fun for me when I started to play them when I was 8 and they're still fun for me at 18.

Gotta catch 'em all... gotta love 'em all!!, 5 Sep 2008

I'm not afraid to say that I am fast approaching 30 (YIKES!) and I still love the phenomenon that is pokemon! And pokemon diamond and pearl for the DS is fabulous! This is a great game with loads of different things to do, and I love being able to upload critters from my pokemon red (GBA) straight to pokemon pearl without a wireless connection or those fiddly wires! The stylus is put to good use although it could be incorporated more with the throwing of pokeballs and stuff like that... but this game is still great! A definite must for all pokefans and lovers of RPG's!

Another part of the sereis greatness, 12 Aug 2008

Yes another installment in the well known RPG serie But this time with WiFi connection. But having said that it could be improved. The GTS has really dogy deals (E.G. Give someone a LV 100 Lugia for a LV 1 Magikarp), WiFi involves freind codes a none of my friends have WiFi. The only other negetive thing is they have kept the the staticy growls insted of pokemon saying theyre name like in the anime. Fortunatly the rest is perfected. Graphics are better including 3-D buildings the pokemon feeling is the same apart from gameplay gets darker later in the game and the scenerion is the most oringinal yet. The biggest improvment for me are pokemon contests. They are contests to show of your pokemons, coolness , Beauty ,Cuteness , smartness and toughness. When I had been playing on my Pokémon Ruby contests were just a bonus feature. They were to scattered apart and making poke blocks were a chore. Now in pearl there in my faverite city they are now pokebread (poffins) to make your pokemon look better in contests .Overall apart from WiFi It is a great game hopfully WiFi will be impoved in platnuim the improved remake.

    Started Well..., 26 Jul 2008

As you may have noticed I felt this game started well but I lost interest. The game started slowly but you very soon work your way up battling through the gyms and towards the pokemon league. After unlocking a new much longer pokedex I didn't know what to do. There were hundreds of pokemon I hadn't seen and I didn't know where to start. I stopped playing and when I occasionally load the game back up I find the same problem. The only option is to cheat on the internet...

Best Pokemon Game Ever!, 18 Jul 2008

Now, I know what you will be thinking, I am thinking like Hannah Montana is better than Even Stevens, Kim Possible, and Rugrats. And that I don't understand "traditional" games like Ocarina of Time and Pokemon Red. I'm 18, I was in that generation. However, I can't help but say that this game is truly amazing.

The graphics are amazingly intense. I couldn't think you could make a better game than Pokemon Red/Blue/Gold/Silver. However the additional features, including the Global Trading, are what makes this game amazing! I like the Team Galactic story doesn't focus on Team Rocket or anything too unoriginal.

Then when I'm done, I can go to the other games, with the same DS with the GBA Slot, and expand on my 450 pokemon national dex. There was also the extra features after you beat the game to continue the story and then get even more legendary pokemon, that was amazing.

Overall, I hate to say it, but this game is the best generation game. 5 out of 5.

    WICKED!!!!!!, 8 Jun 2008

I first bought this game when a friend told me about it and said some positive comments about it. I have always been a fan of the games but was unsure whether it would live up to the standards I was expecting after all the other great games that Nintendo has produced. However, I needn't have worried.

The game still has a lot of the basics that the old ones had, the classic battles and pokemon have returned with a brand new selection to go with it. There is just so much to do, with hundreds of great treats and secrets that will amuse old hands and first timers. I have had it for quite a while now and there are still surprises even when I thought I had finished!

The only thing I could say against it would be that it doesn't use a lot of the touch window, nearly everything that uses it, could easily we done without, but even then it is a brilliant game and this should not put people of!

Overall I would say a deffiant yes to all gamers thinking of purchasing it, Nintendo have out done themselves yet again!

    Great game!, 10 Apr 2008

Pearl was recommended by a friend, and it being my first pokčmon game, I didn't know what to expect. It's great!

Despite lack of stylus usage, the bottom screen is used regularly for the pokčtech, a pokčmon watch. This provides more information as the game goes on.

The Wi-Fi is brilliant. In the first city you come to, you find a place called the GTS (Global Trade Station) which you can use to trade pokčmon with any other GTS user in the world. The only problem with this is that many people put in pointless trades eg. they are offering a level one common and they want a level 100 legendary!

Suitable for first time pokčmon players.

    Graphics are average.

Well, I don't own Pokemon Pearl. But don't avoid this review! I've played it before at my friend's house. It is fun! Catch Pokemon and train them. In order to beat the game you beat the Elite Four.

Lives up to most of the hype, 27 Mar 2008

For starters, this game is definitely worth buying, there is no doubt about that. However, I can't help but compare it to Pokemon Emerald because that was my first Pokemon game, and because of that I am only giving it 4 stars (not that that's bad). I also haven't FULLY beaten this game in the sense that I'm sure there are extra things to do after you've defeated the elite 4 (which i just did). So I guess I've completed the storyline aspect of it, but there are some extra things I need to experience.

    PROS:

    * I really loved the new set of Pokemon due to it's variety. There were plenty of "cute" Pokemon, as well as "cool" ones and "tough" ones, etc. They also had some of the old classics that most of us love to see again.

    * The graphics were amazing and I honestly can't think of a way to improve them. It most certainly put the old games to shame in this regard.

    * Wireless connection. omg... I despise cords with a passion and being able to just jump into the union room and having all my friends appear in there made my life SO much easier.

    * Had a lot of new features that were very fun and creative. Like creating poffins for example. I found this to be much more enjoyable then Pokeblocks from the Sapphire / Ruby set. I also really enjoyed the underground area where you can make a secret base and find / plant spheres.

    * Aside from the Ice Gym, the little puzzles you had to complete before you could fight the actual Leader were all very fun, and at the perfect difficulty level. They weren't hard but they weren't outright easy either. They were set up so that you could complete it in a few minutes without much stress, and I feel that's the way it should be.

    CONS:

    * Not enough fire Pokemon! It just seem very ridiculous to me that unless you pick the fire starting Pokemon (Chimchar), the ONLY fire Pokemon you can get is Ponyta. Now, there may be more fire options after you've defeated the elite 4 that I don't know of, but if this is the case then it just seems a bit stupid to have all your fire Pokemon open up after you've completed most of the game.

    * Although the underground is very fun, I found it a bit annoying that your secret base starts out filled with rocks and you have to spend a bunch of unwanted time getting flags to destroy them.

    * Overall storyline. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it was bad. It just didn't compare in the slightest to the storyline from Emerald. Team Galactic, though a cool team in itself, didn't have the kind of personality I felt from team Magma and Aqua. I really liked that in a sense, they weren't completely bad guys. They just had a skewed idea on what would help the planet, and realized their mistake in the end. The Galactic leader however was just a very cliche bad guy overall, and honestly a bit boring. Also, all the issues that were presented to me were easily overcome and never seemed to stay very serious. So I was pretty disappointed in this aspect.

    * The game just seemed to be really short. I played Emerald non stop for months and am STILL playing it, and after only a few weeks I'm pretty much done with Pearl.

    * Once you beat a random trainer on the road, that's pretty much it. You CAN re-fight them, but you have to take like 1,000 steps or some crap before you can fight only ONE over again. That is just REALLY lame and far more trouble then it should be.

    OVERALL REVIEW:

This game was very enjoyable and I am really glad I bought it. It was well worth the money! However, because of my natural inclination to compare newer versions of a game with the older ones, this game was not as enjoyable as it could have been. There were many things that I loved from Emerald that Pearl was lacking, and it disappointed me greatly. Although there were also many new features that were quite fun, I didn't feel they completely made up for the losses. So because of that, I give this game 4 stars.

A teen's review: for shame pokemon, surely we can do better..., 21 Feb 2008

I've played Pokemon since the games first appeared in America starting out with the old school, but still awesome, red version. And since then I have played most games, or at least one version of that generation of Pokemon. I've loved every single one, and have never gotten bored with them.

And naive as I was I thought, perhaps, this game would be just as enjoyable as the others. I was mistaken.

Though it did bring back memories of the older games, it lacked in many areas. I was most vexed when it came to the Pokemon themselves. They were either horribly grotesque, new models of the older species or one's that appeared as though a three year old had conceived them. There were a few cute or interesting one's spread through out, but they were very few in number.

But there's more. It almost seemed like the game was more focused on all the new things you can do and the spiffy new gadgets. Trading with people across the world, Pokemon contests (which I will note has been altered since the last game, and now features dancing as part of the rotuine. Why yes, yes I did say dancing as absurd as it sounds.), you can now go underground where you can not only build a secret base, but also dig for evolutions stones, jewels and fossils (it's rather annoying if you ask me, having to find the evolution stones. There's no other way to do it unless you've beat the game and can get them from your other game boy advanced games.)

I'm sorry, but what happened to the old game where all you worried about was raising you Pokemon and beating both the gym leaders and elite four?

However, I will admit that the game did have some pluses. The gyms were more than just running in a beating the gym leader and some of his lackeys. They were puzzles that in some cases you had to think about. I've seen some reviewers stating that they disliked the new feature. However I did not. Also, I like the fact that you're not limited to which Pokemon you can get because you chose one game over another. Being able to trade worldwide is quite handy. As is being able to battle people around the globe once you defeat the elite four.

And so I give this game a solid three. It was o.k. But seriously, the creators of Pokemon could have done so much better.

It is okay..., 21 Feb 2008

Its a great game really, but inorder to acully win, you must buy an Action Replay to catch the legendaries like Shaymin, Darakri, or Arcues. I did like it, but having to buy a thirty dollar prduct for a game with not even a majority of the pokemon in it was not to my likeing.

Gotta Catch 'Em All?!, 21 Jan 2008

If I'm honest, I was a bit skeptical of the latest Pokémon game. Surely it would just be the same AGAIN - young trainer leaves home, is faced with Team *insert something space-related here*, defeats said team and rescues Legendary, defeats Gyms blah blah blah... Well, it is sort of like that. But this time, the talented Pokemon games designers have added so many new things, the old formula is highly forgivable.

Like in Gold and Silver, day/night has returned, there's weather again like in Ruby/Sapphire. The wild Pokémon are a healthy mix of each region (which unfortunately means that you won't see every new Pokémon until you defeat the Elite Four) and this time, you get the National Dex by completing the Sinnoh Dex - and all you have to do is SEE every Pokémon on the dex.

There are two new forms of Eevee, some new baby Pokés and a few new evolutions (wait until you see Rhyperior!). So it will take a VERY LONG TIME to Catch Em All! Or will it?

Pokémon D/P are WiFi enabled, and use a system called the GTS (Global Trade System), so you can trade any Pokémon (assuming you've seen it) for any other Pokémon!

Pal Park (after defeating the Elite Four) is also a great addition, and a perfect way to get all of your favourites from your other games into your DS game. Also, the Poké Radar is a wonderful addition which allows you to find all your favourite Pokémon you haven't caught yet, provided you have the other series' game cartridges.

The downside of so many new legendaries though is that some of the special events never went ahead. Darkrai isn't available to the public; you CAN'T Catch 'Em All legitimately.

However, if your goal is just to have fun and beat the Gym Leaders and Elite Four to be the Greatest Trainer of them all, this game is definitely for you. Team Galactic are oddly fun to battle (though not a patch on the original Team Rocket) and the many different rivals you gain along the way make the storyline twist and turn - who will your Champion be?! (of course, if you use the net or have the guide, you probably already know.)

Long story short, if you love Pokémon, no matter who you are, and still adore the old formula but were begging for something different, this is your game. New beginners welcome too!

Extensive game play and enthralling, 12 Sep 2007

First off, I'm a 25 year old who first played Pokemon Red, but didn't play any of the other releases, until Pokemon Ranger (DS) and now Pokemon Pearl. When I first started playing, I thought that the game was good, cute and would amuse me for maybe a few days. Nearly 100 hours of gameplay later (in only three weeks!), I am completely addicted to this game, so much so that I have bought a copy of Pokemon Emerald and Pokemon LeafGreen to help me complete my Pearl pokedex.

The game itself is a very simple interface, and doesn't take long at all to pick up. There is a vast map to explore, and interesting side games, such as the contests to fill up time. With added bonus of wireless trading and battling, I'm quite sure this is a game that will have many more hours played on it.

The game also has the ability to save anywhere - which means you aren't tied to the console to push on to the next save point (As with Pokemon Ranger). I would reccommend this game to anyone looking for a big game to really get involved in, it's brought me a lot of enjoyment, and was definitely money well spent.

Diamond (and pearl) is a girls ( and guys) best friend!, 24 Aug 2007

The graphics are much better, and if you are not obsessed with pokemon yet you soon will be! The game is addictive, and the storyline is much more complicated than boring ruby/sapphire! I reccommend this game to all kids and teenagers, girls and boys alike!

Many people sneer at pokemon, but they are WRONG.It is an interesting game, that is very different from fire red/leaf green, and much better than the rubbish Pokemon Ranger.

    In short; BUY BUY BUY!
